Professor Richard T. Ely, of Johns Hopkins University, is soon to publish a book on taxation in American states and cities.

In a prize debate at Princeton between men chosen from each of the four classes, the freshman representative was successful.

An effort is being made to have the class races a week earlier this year, thereby not crowding so many events into the middle of May.

At the next meeting of the Appalachian Mountain Club to be held tomorrow evening at the Institute of Technology, Sears, '89, will read a paper entitled "A trip through the Jotumheim Mountains."

There will be a lecture in N. H. 4a in the laboratory on Monday, March 19, at 4 p. m. Students who have not already done so are requested to inform the instructor as soon as possible what afternoons they will have for field work after the spring recess, in order that the sections may be at once arranged.

The sophomore appointments preliminary to the prize speaking at Williams College commencement have been announced. They are as follows: Adriance, Beckwith, Clark, Clemminshaw, Colby, Cutler, Edson, Corliss, Nichols and Perry.

The Yale Punch Club, composed of a number of prominent musical and athletic men from its senior class, held its first "punch" Saturday evening. The president of the club says that the faculty has prohibited any future meetings, because such organizations are contrary to the rules of the university. The club will accordingly disband.
