The astronomical expedition under the auspices of the Harvard observatory, shows to what length the professors of this college are willing to go in the cause of science. Comparatively little is heard around college of what is daily being accomplished at the observatory, for the work is of such a nature that the end in view can only be obtained by close study and the most patient kind of investigation. Only when years have rolled by can the amount of work done by the professors at the observatory be fully comprehended and appreciated. We feel confident in saying that no other college in this country has ever attempted a work of such magnitude and importance in astronomy as the professors who are about to start south have undertaken. They will be gone two years, devoting much of their time to the study of the condition of the heavens in South America. Such an undertaking certainly deserves the best of success, and we trust it may achieve all the good results it hopes to bring about.
