The result of last year's operations of the Co-operative Society are satisfactory. It will be remembered that last year a new system was begun, by which all members of the University may buy at the Society's store; prices are fixed a little above cost (though still, as a rule, considerably under ordinary retail prices) and the net profits are divided among members. Under this system the net surplus, on last year's operations, proved to be, in round numbers, $2.200. The directors will presumably vote, at a meeting which is to be held at an early date, to reserve a part of this surplus as an addition to the capital of the Society, and to divide the rest among members. Probably one-third will be added to capital, and two-thirds (nearly $1500) will be divided.
The business of the Society in the first days of the present year has been very large.
