The second of the Saturday afternoon contests resulted as follows:
In the high jump there were seven contestants, two more than at the first contest. Bell, '91, won with a jump of 5ft. 3 1-2 in. Hunnewell, '90, and Briggs, L. S., tied for second at 5 ft. 3-4 in.
In putting the shot only two contestants appeared-Pennypacker, '88 and Finlay, '91. Pennypacker won with the good throw of 35 ft. 6 1-2 in. Finlay's last put was 34 ft. 8 in.
In the pole vault, Leavitt, '89, made 9 feet, and R. S. Hale, '91, 8 ft. 9 in. These were the only contestants.
The non-appearance 'of the other contestants in the shot and pole vault shows a lack of interest which is very reprehensible, and augurs ill for our success in the struggle for the cup next spring. Any failure of the candidates to improve every opportunity for practice is likely to render futile the efforts of the H. A. A. for success next spring. It is to be hoped that such delinquency may not happen again.
