Owing to a peculiar provision of the gift of a new building to Yale, the fence will have to be removed to make way for it. The Yale alumni and undergraduates are protesting against any such action, and last week the matter was brought before the New York alumni in a formal way, and as a result a petition to the corporation has been drawn up, protesting the proposed location of the building. Copies of this will be sent to every alumni association in the country, and the protest will be presented to the corporation at the earliest possible opportunity. It is generally understood that the influence of the alumni is greater than that of the undergraduates, but the latter will in all probability make a formal protest to the corporation against the removal of the most venerable of Yale institutions-the fence.
