It has been suggested that the bicycle club join the Eastern Road Club and send a team of three men to compete in its 25-mile road races which take place every spring and fall. There can be no doubt that this would be an excellent plan for improving the average riding of the club, just as competition with other and better nines improves the playing of our nine. The only objection is that the spring race occurs near the time of the Mott Haven sports, and the best riders may be away at New York. Still it is unlikely that more than three men will be sent to Mott Haven, and with Davis, Dean, Norton, Bailey, '91, Bailey, '88, Merrill, Brown, Hesseltine and Darling the H. B. C. ought to be able to furnish a good road team as well as a track team. These contests would very likely bring out some new men who would not take to track racing otherwise and will thus furnish candidates for the Mott Haven team.
