The communication which we publish to-day in regard to the finances of the University crew gives evidence of careful consideration on the part of the writer. The items of expense which he brings to notice most assuredly need examination. The boat club is not so much to blame in this matter as the system which has come into use. The trouble in the case undoubtedly lies in a lack of that kind of activity which is so requisite in matters of finance. The business of the treasurers of the boat club has become a routine which is vicious on account of its want of susceptibility to new methods. If a thorough overhauling of the manner in which the accounts are kept, and the monies expended should take place, new life and better financiering would undoubtedly follow.
