Note and Comment.

Harvard will lose only a few of her foot-ball team this year, and Princeton will lose only one man, so that we will have to exert ourselves to the utmost to retain our position at the head of the league. It is impossible to get much valuable practice during the first week of the term on account of the poor physical condition of the men, and it therefore becomes necessary to be some what easy in the work until they be come somewhat used to it. We would therefore suggest and urge the men who were on the team, and all those who are intending to try for it, to begin their training two or three weeks before the college opens. They can do this by dieting and by taking long walks and gymnastic exercises of other kinds. This will not take much time, and by doing so the men will be in much better condition to begin work upon their return. Actual foot-ball playing will thus be commenced sooner and the time saved which is generally lost in running aimlessly up and down the field for exercise during the first week or two. At Harvard and Princeton, the active participation in lacrosse by many of their best foot-ball players give them skill and exercise which are missed here, so that especial efforts should be made to keep up our position. - Yale News.
