The Harvard nine received its first defeat of the season yesterday afternoon at the hands of the Marlboros. The game was called at the end of the sixth innings to enable the Marlboros to catch a train. Austin and Choate were the battery for Harvard, and Henshaw and Bingham did not play. Both teams batted well, but fielded rather loosely.

The Marlboros were first at the bat, and made one run in the first innings on a hit and two passed balls. They made one run in the second, and one in the third without making any hits. In the fourth innings they went out in order. In the fifth they made another run. Rock made a single, stole second, and came in on Baker's long drive to left field. Baker attempted to come home on his hit, but was caught at the plate. Foster to Boyden, to Choate. In the sixth they added two more runs to their score on a three bagger by McLaughlin, a single by Doyle, Doyden's fumble of Doyle's hit, and a sacrifice hit.

Wiestling opened the game for Harvard with a long dive to left field, on which he made a home run. Campbell got third on his fly to left, which Baker muffed, and came in on Willard's hit to Laverty. Harvard did not score again this innings, and went out in order in the second. In the third they made two more runs. Foster got his base on balls, stole second, and came home on Comp bell's three bagger. Campbell came in on Willard's fly to centre. They made one more run in the sixth on Compbell's hit, Willard's single and a wild throw.

For Harvard, Wiestling and Campbell did the best batting. Boyden made two beautiful running catches, and Wiestling and Mumford also fielded well. Rock did the best fielding for Marlboro. The score:
