Base-Ball.

EIGHTY-SEVEN, 9; EIGHTY-EIGHT, 3.

The game on Holmes between the seniors and juniors was a very prettily played contest from beginning to end, all but two of the errors being very excusable. As the 'Varsity was away Holmes was used instead of Jarvis, and the vast array of empty benches seemed to dampen the enthusiasm of the spectators, and there was no cheering, and, needless to say, no "rattling." The game was the prettiest game of the series so far, and very much the most enjoyable, as it was played strictly on its merits. Eighty-seven made only two fielding errors, which cost her nothing and were most excusable, and Eighty-eight's errors with the exception of dropped flies were also excusable. Eighty-seven also out-batted as as well as out-fielded her opponents. although her hits were not bunched and did not net her as many runs as they might have. The feature of the game was Thayer's catching, especially of hot foul tips, and his throwing to bases, which was excellent, Eighty-seven stealing but two bases off him. Coolidge and Austin played brilliantly at second for each nine. The old Eighty-seven battery reversed was more, effective than the former way, Litchfield proving quite a puzzle.

Mr. McPherson, '89, umpired very impartially and satisfactorily except in one or two decisions on bases, where the cloud of dust raised by a slide made a quick decision impossible. The score:

EIGHTY-SEVEN.
