There are over twenty societies in the University of Kansas. One bears the euphonious name of the Lime Kiln Anti-secret Debating Society.

The batteries of the Yale nine are to be Stagg and Dann, and Dann and Spencer or Sullivan. Stagg will probably pitch in all the important games.

Eastman, the catcher of the Williams College nine, is a resident of Albany. Since the retirement of Finley, he is looked upon as his successor to the title of the best college catcher.

The Freshman Glee Club is now made up as follows: First tenors, Burrage, McDuffy, Jay, Rawson and MacNichol; second tenors, Poor, Fullerton, Wheelwright, and Crane; first bases, Darling, Dennison, Codman, Lockwood and Howe; second bases, Woods, Faulkner, Leavitt, Arms and McLeod; accompanist, Bigelow.

At the last shot-putting contest Gibson, '88, won with a record of 34 feet 5 1-2 inches; Manley, '87, was second, 32 feet; Bowen, '87, was third, 31 feet 2 inches. The whole contest stands as follows: Gibson, average best put, 32 feet 5 7-10 inches; Manley, 31 feet 10 7-10 inches; Bowen, 31 feet 7 8-10 inches.

On account of lack of space the full report of the Harvard Union debate will not appear in this paper until tomorrow. Over 200 persons assembled to listen to it. The vote on the merits of the question was 80-71 in Mr. Blaine's favor. On the merits of the principal disputants it stood 112-58 against his nomination for the presidency.

Yesterday afternoon the following candidates for the nine began regular field work: Willard, Foster, Wiestling, Choate, Boyden and Henshaw of last year's nine; Bingham, '89, Palmer, '88, Holden, '88, Dudley, '87, Miller, L. S., Leakin, L. S., Downer, '89, Bisbee, '87, Manley, '87, Campbell, L. S., Young, '89, Piper, '90, and Mumford, '90, new men. Bingham and Palmer pitched for squads of the men who took turns practicing batting and fielding. Allen, '86, of last year's nine, was among the spectators.
