On Christmas eve the students who remain in Cambridge will have a chance to call upon one of our most popular professors and we venture to predict that a large number will avail themselves of this opportunity. These informal receptions are what we need here to bring student and professor into closer contact than can be got through the medium of the lecture room. They tend to bridge over the gap which lies between the instructor and his pupils. It is unfortunate that in the case of Prof. Norton, the date fixed for the reception comes at a time when so few men are in Cambridge. There are many of us who are thus deprived of the opportunity to see more of one whom we so admire in the lecture room.
