The American Protective Tariff League has offered to the senior classes of American colleges three prizes of 250,100 and 50 dollars respectively for the best essays on the following subject: "Home production indispenable to supply, at low prices, of the manufactured commodities required for the people of the United States, and adequate home production of these commodities impossible without a productive tariff."
The essays must not exceed 10,000 words, and must be sent in before April 1st, 1888. The essays must be signed by a fictitions name, but must be accompanied by real name and address of the writer, signed by an officer of the college; also with certificate of good standing in a scaled envelope, marked by the same word or signature on the essay. The essays must be sent to the American Protective Tariff League, 23 West Twenty-third street, New York City.
