Since the trials of candidates for the Glee Club and for the Pierian orchestra are to take place this coming week, a word to those intending to try for positions on the clubs may not be out of place.
In the first place let every man who has ever sung at all to present himself at the trial. There may be many also who don't know they can sing, yet who may have good untrained voices which can be made much of in a chorus. This kind of men have in the past proved valuable Glee Club men.
Another thing. Let no man stay away on account of the natural shy reserve which has been so noticeable in the last three or four freshman classes.
Every one will receive equal attention and lucky the man who successfully passes the examination and gets enrolled into the ranks of our world famed band of Troubadours.
As to those who are instrumentally inclined, whether they play the Bassoon or the Kazoo or both, they should present themselves before the august committee of the Venerable Pierian Sodality, and if perchance a man proves himself able to play even a little bit he can rest assured of a warm instrumental reception,
Our music of last year was very good, it can be even better in 1887-8.
