Mr. A. S. Johnson of Canada has been appointed to the chair of philosophy at Cornell.

Brown will probably erect a Physical Laboratory and Gymnasium with the bequest just received.

Col. Higginson has undertaken for the N. Y Independent a series of twelve articles on "Literary Tendencies."

There will be a regular meeting of the CRIMSON board to-day at 1.30. All members of the board are requested to be present.

The Cornell Sun takes exception to the account of the Cornell cheer which appeared originally in the Yale News and then in the CRIMSON. It says "It is needless to add that the writer does not know what the Cornell yell is. For his benefit we will say that "Cornell! I yell! yell yell! Cornell!" is the only recognised slogan of the students of the university.

The Yale Co-operative Society had a surplus of $348.38 in the bank Jan. 1, when its assets were $1174.05 above liabilities.

Lockwood, '87, who stroked Columbia's winning crew last year, will not be able to row again, on account of a severe accident to his eyes.

The Princetoman devotes a column to a description of a visit made by John Adams to Princeton in 1774; the article is taken from Charles Francis Adams' "Life of John Adams".

The annual alumni dinner of Yale will take place in Boston on Wednesday, February 2. Among those who have signified their purpose to be present are Gov. Ames, Lieut. Gov. Brackett, President Dwight, and Mr. Chauncey Depew.

The college to be established a Princeton next year by Dr. J. H. McIvane for the education of female students, has been named Evelyn College. The requirements for admission will be practically the same as the requirements for entrance to Princeton college.
