The game yesterday between '88 and '89, and the game with the Latin School Saturday showed clearly two things: Either the freshmen must play better ball or get a tremendous drubbing by Yale. Such playing as was done on Holmes yesterday by '89 would be a disgrace to a respectable "scrub" team, and '89 does not begin to play as well as several of the nines which contested for the CRIMSON cups last year. Most of the fielders treat a game of base ball as a huge joke, and during a game indulge in such little pleasantries as guying each other about errors. The sooner they drop this style of play the better for the class and for the men themselves. They fail to play together, and a couple of hits by their opponents totally demoralize the team. They play without snap and as if nothing depended on their improvement. They strike at a ball, with one or two exceptions, with out any life, and if they make a hit, it is generally by chance. '89 must stop fooling at once and make a decided brace if they wish to make a showing against the Yale freshmen. They ought to realize that they have an inter-collegiate series to play, where "monkeying" does not win a game. They have not only the honor of their own class, but in part the reputation of the college to sustain.
