Last Saturday the Harvard cricket eleven was defeated by the Lowells; this is their second game and second defeat this season. If the cricket club wishes to win another championship for Harvard, it will have to take a decided brace and go to work in a more systematic way than it has been doing so far. The captain, or his representative, ought to see that the eleven and substitutes are out punctually every afternoon. The training of these men should be the first thing seen to; they should be given plenty of opportunity to bat, and the best bowlers should bowl to them. The present system of letting everybody bowl, even those who only can throw the ball, should be done away with. After the eleven have had the necessary amount of practice, the unsuccessful candidates and beginners should have their turn at the bat.
There is good material in college, and there is no reason whatever why the cricket club should not be as successful as other Harvard teams.
