But the suggestion that the Conference Committee itself comprise the proposed jury - a suggestion which we cannot support - has led to a discussion of what the Conference Committee should be. Its present name certainly implies that it was instituted only as a deliberative and advisory body. As such, the committee certainly has excellent reasons for existence. Deliberation has its merits, and the power of giving advice its dignity and importance; but after all neither of these involves any certain influence, any decided power. We think the time will come when a committee will exist here, with legislative as well as deliberative power, when the vote of a student representative body shall not only be treated with respect, but also endowed with power. Such a committee, however, must be a growth, that may take several years. Everything depends on the success of the present Conference Committee, as a conference committee.
