It was with considerable surprise that the announcement of Dartmouth's withdrawal from the Inter-collegiate Association was received. By her withdrawal the association has lost a good club from its membership and the interest attached to the championship contest is decreased by just so much. To be sure, the Williams team will undoubtedly do good work, but they can hardly be expected to do as well as the team which has heretofore represented Dartmouth. From a selfish point of view we have reason to regard this change with favor, but the regret at losing the old and well-known club will over-balance, in the mind of every fair minded lover of base-ball, any momentary impulse of joy which may spring up at the thought of our increased chances for a victorious season.
