The executive committee of the American protective tariff league has offered to the students of senior classes in all American colleges a series of prizes for approved essays on the subject, "Advantages of a protective tariff to the labor and industries of the United States:" each essay not to exceed 10,000 words, and to be sent to the office of the league on or before May 1, 1887, awards to be made June 15, 1887, as follows: For best essay, [$250; second best, $100; third best, $50. And for other essays deemed especially meritorious, a handsome silver medal, designed for this purpose. The league reserves the right to publish, at its own cost, any of the successful essays and to include the first prize essay in the annual publications of the league.
