Considerable complaint is made by the library authorities concerning the carelessness, in times past, of those holding cards of admittance to the basement and stack of the library. So much confusion has been caused in this way as to impair seriously the usefulness of the institution, and may, in the future, occasion stringent measures against even those students who have great need of easy access to the less frequently used reference books. The trouble arises mainly from the failure of students to replace the books used. In that way alone over two thousand volumes were lost track of last year, - a serious matter indeed in a library taxed as heavily in other directions as ours is.
We would wish then to caution every man who now enjoys any of these privileges, to take great care lest he should shut out not only himself but also others from enjoying such privileges.
