In striking contrast to Harvard's defeats last year in athletics are the victories of our representatives in field sports; and foremost among these is the remarkable record of Mr. Wendell Baker, who may be justly called the champion amateur sprint runner of the world. The honor to Harvard and the pride which we must all feel alike in this success may alleviate in some degree the melancholy aspect of our other athletic sports. The college has only to regret that Mr. Baker has decided to allow the end of his college course likewise to end his career as a runner.
