Freshman Glee Club Concert.

Quite a respectably sized audience was seated in Roberts Hall last evening to listen to the first concert ever given by freshmen at Harvard. The class was unfortunate in having fixed the date for their concert on the same night as the Shakspere Club's performance, and the audience was naturally not as large as might have been wished. The following program was rendered by the club, assisted by freshman members of the Pierian:-

College songs, Freshman Glee Club; String Quartette, Die Felsenmuhle, Reissiger, Messrs. Whipple, Seelye, G. A. Carpenter, and Loeb; Diebeiden Grenadiere, Schumann, Mr. Chollet; Polka for Cornet, Rollinson, Mr. Benj. Carpenter; College Songs; Piano Solo, Mazurka, Leschetizky, Mr. Daniels; Nocturne for Violin, Field, Mr. Seelye; 'Cello Solo, Gavotte, Popper, Mr. Loeb; College Songs.

The feature of the evening was Mr. Loeb's cello solo, a Gavotte by Popper. His whole playing was marked by surprising feeling and delicacy of touch, and called forth loud applause from the audience, which demanded an encore. He responded by a romance of Pergorlesi's, which was received with renewed applause. Mr. Daniels' piano solo was also delightfully rendered and very well received, and he also was forced to respond to an encore. Mr. Chollet's bass solo and Mr. Carpenter's cornet solo were both of very high order and were enthusiastically received. The college songs, with Mr. Carpenter's fine joking were greeted with their usual favor, especially an adaption of "Rosalic" glorifying '88.

Altogether the concert was a decided success, musically and financially; and the club is to be congratulated upon it. We are not only gratified at their sucess, but we take the liberty of hoping that the club will not disband till it has given the college at least one more opportunity to hear as excellent a concert as it gave last night; and we also thank them for having initiated a custom which we hope will become permanent.
