In one respect our crews and nines are heavily handicapped at the beginning of each season. We are under the misfortune of attending a college situated so far to the north that the period between the departure of winter and the time when the season of championship contests begins is extremely short. This year we are especially hindered in our out-of-door training. The ice is just beginning to break up in the river, and the state of Holmes and Jarvis is anything but satisfactory for the prospects of the base-ball and lacrosse teams. The lesson to be drawn from this state of affairs is perfectly plain. It has been too often called to our notice to require much elaboration now. Our teams must make up for their forced inactivity by increased exertions when the period of propitious weather does arrive, and the base-ball men may find some consolation in the thought that Hanover is even further towards the north than Cambridge.
