During 1884, there was 527 books published relating to educational subjects.

Of the six professors in the Divinity School, three are Unitarians, two Baptists, and one Orthodox Congregationalist.

It is said that the German students are not successful as oarsmen, on account of their inability to abstain from the use of tobacco and beer.

The expenses attending that delightful diversion, morning prayers, which the overseers have been so considerate as not to abolish, amounts to about $5000 annually.

Since the petition for making chapel voluntary has been refused by the overseers, there has been a marked increase in attendance. Without a doubt, many students were taking a taste of the liberty which they expected would be granted, and are now rudely awakened to the fact that chapel cuts are still counted.

The Yale nine expects to go out to Hamilton Park for practice in a few days. It will be impossible to use the new athletic grounds for some time to come, owing to the soft condition of the ground.

It is stated that the appeal made by the brass band for more candidates will be answered by the students, and that the trial of candidates next Thursday, will bring out some hitherto unknown performers.

Doubtless many students noticed the brilliant ray of red light that illumined the sky on Monday evening, and not a few probably took it for a meteor. It was occasioned by a fire in Watertown, but so far there has been no explanation of this peculiar reflection.

The lecture under the auspices of the Historical Club, on "The Philosophy of Poetry," was given last evening by Prof. Everett in Sever. A large audience, among which were many ladies, was present, and listened with great attention to the very enjoyable lecture.

The next meeting of the Harvard Union will be held on Tuesday, March 24th. The debate will be on the following question; Resolved, that members of the President's cabinet should be allowed on the floor of Congress with full powers to speak and vote. Regular disputants have been appointed as follows:- C. A. Strong, '85, and H. Page, '88, affirmative; J. M. Goodale, '85, and L. B. Stedman, '87, negative.
