A German school boy has a busy life. He is compelled to attend school from his fifth to his fourteenth year. If he chooses to prolong his course he enters either the gymnasium or the realschule when he is nine or ten The gymnasium has a nine or ten years' course, and corresponds to the American preparatory school and the first two years of college. Mathematics, Greek, Latin, French, history, geography, natural history and elementary natural philosophy, a short course in logic, with elective Hebrew and English form the course of study.
