Some time ago the CRIMSON published the letters of the various committees in regard to the further employment of Col. Bancroft. At that time we were decidedly opposed to the dismissal of Col. Bancroft, and deplored what seemed to us the hasty action of the athletic committee. Since then we have had no reason to modify our opinion, which we think is that of the majority of the students. We sincerely hope that, after a full discussion of this matter, the committee may be induced to make some concessions, as was done in the report on the abolition of foot ball. In order to present to our readers all possible information on this question, we have written to several gentlemen who have, during the last few years, been members of the University crew. From these men, all of them recent graduates, and thoroughly acquainted with the present system of boating at Harvard, we can surely hope to obtain reliable information as to the advisability of retaining a paid coach.
