Although the nine was defeated yesterday, there is no reason for despondency in regard to the games which are yet to be played. While the fielding was not very good, much can be accounted for by the wretched weather and the wetness of the ball. The batting was excellent. It is very encouraging to see the nine hit the ball as easily as they did yesterday, especially when matched against so good a pitcher. With such a marked improvement as has been shown in this respect and also in the base running, we feel confident of success in the future.
