HARVARD BICYCLE CLUB.

ENTRIES FOR THE EIGHTH ANNUAL RACE MEETING.

Tomorrow the Bicycle club will hold their annual races, using for the first time the new track on Holmes' field. The officers of the club have labored long and diligently to make the meet a success, and from the number of entries and the care with which the arrangements have been made, there can be but little doubt that the races of tomorrow will eclipse in interest all those previously held under the auspices of the club. Last year the club was compelled to resort to the track on Beacon Park, because the college would not allow the organization to hold any open races upon Jarvis field. This year, by making the open races invitation races, the opposition of the faculty was removed, and the club is enabled to return to their own track, which is a great advantage. The time for the closing of entries was Tuesday evening, so that the lists given are complete; the only thing remaining being to fix the handicaps in the fourth race. The officers of the club under whose management these races have been inaugurated are: President, E. Norton, '85; captain, W. D. Smith, '84; sub captain, A. D. Claflin, 86; secretary and treasurer, F. W. White, '85. Directors, J. G. Coolidge, '84; A. T. French, '85; C. L. Harrison, '86; W. C. Appleton, '87. Race committee, Messrs. Norton, J. S. Dean, L. S., and White. It is to the latter committee that the direct management of the races has been left, and to them all of the credit for success will be due.

The races will be called promptly at 3 P. M., and will be governed by the following rules: "Contestants will be notified before each event and must be on their marks promptly, or the event will be started without them." "Only club officials and members of the press will be allowed inside the track." "A bell will be rung at the beginning of the last lap." "No coaching the contestants allowed."No professional bicycle rider will be allowed to start any contestant." "Bicycle Union and League rules to govern the meeting." The entries include many names of note in bicycling circles, both among college men and amateurs generally, those best known among the visitors being Hendee, Frazier, Hamilton of Yale, who won at New York on Saturday; Maxwell, also of Yale, Haven, Segur, Sabin and Bigelow. We regret to see that the names of Claflin and Dean are not among the contestants.
