The university nine played a game of five innings Saturday afternoon with the Walthams, and defeated them with ease. The Walthams entirely failed to bat Nichol's delivery, striking out ten times.
During the first two innings they were literally unable to hit the ball but once, and then only for a short foul and not once in the game did they succeed in knocking the ball outside of the diamond.
Their fielding was poor, but this may be partly accounted for by the absence of Bowen, their regular catcher. Harvard played a very sharp game. The pitching was good, and the catching of both Allen and Crocker was very good. In the second inning Fish, who reached his first base on seven balls, stole second and third before a man was out, but was left there, as Nichols struck out three men in succession. In the last inning Crocker made a fine throw, cutting off Bresnahan at second base. Beaman played an excellent game at third base. The batting was good, Phillips and Allen leading.
