ART AT PHNCETON. -Preparations are now being made for the opening of the new art school during the coming winter term. This department will not seek to give technical instruction, but will consist of lectures on the history of art. Prof. Allen Marquand will offer a course to the senior class on art in antiquity, with special reference to the arts of Egypt, Assyria, Greece, and Rome. Prof. Prince, of New York, will lecture on the histories of various arts. President McCosh has consented to give a few lectures on aesthetics, and Prof. Osborne on the anatomy of facial expression. The college already possesses several valuable art collections. Among these are interesting collections illustrating the arts of Mexico, Peru and the North American Indians; some valuable Assyrian guns and Greek terra cotta heads; also, a number of art books and photographs.
