Harvard vs. Technology.

OUR ELEVEN SCORES 42 POINTS AND PREVENTS THE TECH MEN FROM SCORING.

The weather on Saturday was rather cold and blustering for the men who went to see the foot ball game on the Union grounds and a strong wind favored one side and hindered the other. The Techs had the first kick-off and the ball was put in play at 3.16 P. M. They succeeded by a quick rally in carrying the ball some distance towards the Harvard goal, but then lost it. The man who next got it was Bemis, who made a beautiful rush and worked the ball close up to the other end of the field. Kent tried for goal but failed. The ball was brought out by the Techs and kicked off. Bemis and Gilman rushed it back and Kent tried again for a goal from the field and failed. The next move of interest was a rush by Wesselhoeft which resulted in a touchdown. Willard punted out but did it so poorly that a try for goal was impossible. Phinney was the next fortunate man and he secured a touchdown in a very short time from which Kent again failed to make a goal. The ball was soon obtained by Harvard and being passed to Willard he kicked a goal. After the ball was started in the middle the Tech men made another rush towards our goal but were unable to hold the ground thus gained. Little by little it was worked up the field. Willard was hurt and Holden took his place. Kent kicked a goal from the field. When play was begun again the Tech men had their only chance to score, Twombly trying for a goal from the field. He failed to do this. One more touchdown was made by Wesselhoeft and the inning closed with 2 goals and 3 touchdowns to Harvard's credit.

The second half was shortened to 30 minutes on account of the approaching darkness. The wind was with Harvard and what was better was very strong. Bemis made a very fine rush and a touchdown was made from which kent kicked a goal. Phinney made another touchdown from which Peabody kicked the goal. The Tech men were unable to make any headway and each time the ball was kicked off in the centre it immediately went towards their goal. Bemis again rested the ball over the line and was tackled by Pratt and Bartlett who held him up so that he could not score a touchdown. The given time allowed was wasted in this struggle and the referee gave a touchback against the Techs. The last play made was a touchdown by Gilman from which Peabody scored his second goal and the third of the second half. The whole score was two goals from the field, three goals from touchdowns, three touchdowns, and one safety against the Techs. The play of our men was not all what it should have been. Many times there was an unsteadiness which Yale or Princeton men would have taken advantages of and scored. Captain Kimball did not play but acted as umpire and coach for our team. Captain Appleton of last year's Harvard team was the referee. Mr. Cooley was the Technology umpire. The teams were as follows: Harvard-Rushers, Wesselhoeft, Phillips, Brooks, Winslow, Gilman Thayer, Phinney; quarterback, Bemis, halfbacks, Kent, Willard, (Holden.) Technology-Rushers, Herrick, Green, Taintor, Mahon, Ladd, Voice, Bowles; quarterback. Twombly; halfbacks, Bartlett, Fletcher; fullback, Pratt.
