EDITORS DAILY CRIMSON. -The request of the Cleveland men of the University, as expressed in a motion passed unanimously at their meeting Friday night, that the brass band and drum corps parade in the procession which is to march to the Independent rally in Boston next Wednesday evening, seems to me most reasonable and proper. The drum corps was organized to march in whatever procession the college should vote to turn out in, whether that should be the Republican or Democratic. The brass like-wise, would have paraded in the Democratic procession if such had been the decision of the college. Both the drum corps and the band are made up of Blaine men and Cleveland men indifferently ; and since the college this year is so equally divided in political preferences, if seems as if the Cleveland men had almost a right to demand organizations to turn out in their procession as well as in the Republican. Since the members of the band and drum corps who are opposed to Mr. Blaine are willing to risk for the moment their political feelings and to turn out to help make Harvard's share in the Republican procession a grand success, it seems only courtesy that the Blaine men in the two bodies should return the favor by turning out willingly in the Cleveland procession of Wednesday night. It seems to me that only two objections can possibly be urged ; first, that uniforms may not be ready, and second, that the band and drum crops have not had sufficient practice to warrant them in appearing in public. The first objection is easily disposed of ; while it would certainly be better to appear in uniform, yet a plug hat, as in years past, is all that is really essential. As to the second point ; the brass band has already had a number of rehearsals, and even if the rumor which appeared in your columns a few days ago, that the band had learned a new tune, may be a trifle previous, yet it can surely give us the old favorite "Yale men say." The drum corps can certainly have three rehearsals between now and Wednesday veining ; enough to get it into presentable shape. Moreover, such experience as the parade Wednesday would give, would be the very best practice possible in preparation for the parade of the 30th.
