We have received a communication from an "anxious friend," begging us to inform him through our columns, "by what means students are awakened in case of fire occurring at night in the dormitories of the college?" This is a rather difficult question to answer. We can assure our anxious friend, however, that the college has, in its own opinion, sufficiently provided for the safety of its students under these circumstances by a liberal distribution of staples throughout the college buildings. We believe the authorities have not as yet, however, undertaken the difficult task of awakening every student in case of fire, but under the rapid strides of improvement in our government we can confidently look forward to the time when this will form a regular part of the duties of some official. Until that time we beg our "anxious friend" to calm himself and to trust to the natural wakefulness of students as a safety against fire.
