The relative speed of walkers and runners is shown by the fact that L. E. Myers, the champion short distance runner, was recently defeated in his attempt to run three quarters of a mile while Murray, the champion walker, was walking half a mile.

The convention of the colleges interested in the "Child's Cup" race at Philadelphia decided to admit Cornell in the place of Columbia and to change the course to the Flat Rock dam course twelve miles up the Schuylkill from Philadelphia. This will reduce the handicap which the Pennsylvania crew has hitherto held over other competitors.

The Pastime Athletic Club of New York is to hold a series of games on the 10th of May, to determine the best general athlete in the country. The prize will be a gold medal valued at $100, and the events will be as follows. Running 100, 220, 440 and 880 yards, and 1 and 5 miles; 120 yards hurdle race 10 obstacles 3 feet 6 inches high; walking 1 mile; running high jump; pole vaulting; throwing the hammer and 56 pound weight, and putting the shot and Graeco-Roman wrestling.

PRINCETON BOATING.The following have been elected officers of the Princeton Boating Association: Captain, C. W. Bird; president, Grier Hersch; vice-president, F.S.Hicks; treasurer, W. F. Jackson; secretary, M. S. Bevan. The question of the advisability of supporting a crew has been a mooted one in the college ever since the defeats sustained last spring. Strong articles in opposition to boating have appeared in the college press, and a stubborn resistance was anticipated in the meeting by the boating men. The elections were made, however, without opposition, and a motion was carried to sustain a crew. The applications for positions are about thirty in number.
