NOTES.The Yale freshman nine easily defeated the Princeton freshmen 6 to 1 Saturday.
The freshmen play a game with the Brown freshmen next Saturday at Providence. Harvard, '86, will have to present comparatively a week team, as their three 'Varsity men will be with the nine at New Haven.
Yale defeated Amherst Saturday in the first championship game of the season 3 to 1. Amherst's fielding was excellent, but superior batting by Yale won the game. Amherst secured only three totals off from Jones' delivery.
The manager of the nine received a telegram Saturday morning from Providence requesting that the Harvard-Brown game be postponed because of the rain. The game will be played next Wednesday if arrangements can be made.
This year's nine is not a typical one for Yale. The men are light and youthful, more like an Amherst nine, if we may credit our informants. Unlike the usual Yale nine, the men step to the bat as if expecting to be hit rather than wanting to make a hit. - [Princetonian.
The Yale nine will probably be constituted as follows for the remainder of the season : Hubbard, captain and catcher; Jones, pitcher; Childs, 1st base; Terry, 2d base; Slocum (probably), 3d base; McKee, left field; Hopkins, right field; Carpenter, centre; Souther, Booth, Merrill and Lyon, substitutes.
