The Springfield Republican has the following: "The Boston Advertiser semi-officially demonstrates that Harvard University will continue to honor the chief executive office of the State, by giving the degree of LL. D. to the man who happens to hold it at present. Thereupon the Journal raises this warning: 'There will be more than one will changed when Harvard College confers a degree upon Gov. Butler.' Will 'our university' allow itself to be bulldozed?"
