The result of the class races was not wholly unexpected and seems to be satisfactory all around; the seniors, of course, are contented, while the juniors are fully satisfied with second place. The sophomores rowed in splendid form, and their recovery of third place from the freshmen near the finish is worthy of praise. The freshmen console themselves with the thought that they have made the best freshman showing since '83 swept all before them three years ago.
On the whole, the race may be considered a great success. both in respect to the rowing itself and in respect to the complete arrangements which had been made; for this the officers of the boat club deserve credit. The new method of starting the boats by the tug whistle and pistol shot was eminently successful, and should be adopted as the permanent regulation for starting. The graduation of '83 will leave for next year three very evenly matched crews, and provided '85 and '86 improve in the way they are capable of, we predict another close and exciting race.
