EDITORS HARVARD HERALD : It is to be regretted that the Crimson has an editorial and announcement in regard to the races to be given by the Bicycle Club at Beacon Park. The members of the faculty have had the matter under consideration for a few days past, and some objections to the plan were made. These objections were the expression of private views given unofficially, and it is to be regretted that an announcement based upon them has been made. I am glad to announce that at a meeting of the faculty committee on Friday last, it was agreed to allow the Bicycle Club to hold races at Beacon Park this spring. This permission the club has officially received. The committee, however, wish it to be understood that the permission thus granted is not to be deemed a precedent for future races, and that it is owing to the fact that we have no suitable track of our own that Beacon Park is allowed. In granting this permission the committee of the faculty have the thanks of the club, not only for the permission but also for their considerate manner of dealing with the matter, which is an additional proof of their interest in the welfare of our athletics.
