Gov. Butler has addressed the legislature on the subject of the Massachusetts Agricultural College: "From the economy which can well be practised by the student at the Agricultural College, because of the cheapness of living, the absence of those inducements to extraordinary expenses by the pupil, which render a college course so burdensome to men of moderate means, the sons of such men will be enabled, either by their own exertions or the support of their parents, to obtain at a cost within their reach a good practical education, as good, in my judgment, as anywhere else, to fit them for the business of life."
