General Grant is reported to have said to a gentleman in New York yesterday that he would never allow his friends to propose to Congress again the passage of a bill placing him on the retired list with the rank of general.

The sparring exhibition in Madison Square Garden, New York, last night netted quite a large sum for the sufferers by the Western floods. The "set-tos" were between Sullivan and Prof. Laflin, Donovan and Billy Edwards, Joe Coburn and Prof. Wm. Clark.
