The New York Times begins its account of the recent athletic convention facetiously thus: "A score of swell young men assembled in an inner room of the Ffth Avenue Hotel yesterday afternoon, where they laid off their fashionable great coats, placed aside their crookhandled canes, and proceeded to take counsel together regarding one of the most popular branches of university education. They were the delegates from the principal colleges to the Intercollegiate Athletic Association."
