As the winter meetings approach the question of the best method of disposing of the reserved seats naturally presents itself for consideration. Last year the plan of appointing a time and place for the sale of tickets, and giving to the first comers the first chance, was tried and found to work satisfactory in the main. There were a few details, however, which seem to allow of improvement. The place of sale should be in some place where a line can easily be formed, and where no inconvenience will result from the crowd. Last year the sale of tickets took place in one of the rooms of Holworthy, and much trouble was caused by the lack of a suitable place for forming a line. The gentleman, too, occupying the room opposite that of the secretary of the association, although he very kindly threw his room open to the crowd, must have been much annoyed by the intrusion Probably the officers of the Co-operative Society would willingly allow the officers of the Athletic Association the use of their office at Drury's for the sale, or if not some other place equally good can doubtless be found.
It seems, too, that in justice to all no more than a certain number of tickets should be sold to each man, since otherwise a man who has been in line for some time might find that those ahead of him had exhausted the supply, as was the case last year.
Another suggestion which has been made, and which seems to have much to recommend it, is that those intending to compete in the games should have the privilege of purchasing two or three tickets in advance, without being obliged to run their chances with the rest. As the men who compete are perhaps more interested than others in having their friends present, and as they would not take but a very small portion of the whole number of tickets, the plan, it seems, would be perfectly fair.
It might result, too, in affording an extra inducement to men to enter the games. At all events, the matter is worthy of consideration, and we commend it to the attention of the officers of the association.
