The following description of fire-escape apparatus has been posted in the dormitories :
1. Bangor extension ladder fifty feet long, with raising poles. Basement window, marked "Fire Ladder," in the south end of Weld. No lock.
2. Bangor extension ladder sixty feet long and common ladder forty feet long, with raising poles. - Basement window, marked "Fire Ladders," in the southwest corner of Appleton Chapel. No lock.
3. Ladder thirty feet long and ladder forty-five feet long in the basement of Harvard Hall. Door usually locked.
4. Short ladders. - Basement of University Hall. Door sometimes locked.
5. Johnson pumps. One in the bedroom of each college officer and in each janitor's office.
6. Axes. - In all the janitors' offices.
7. Six lanterns.

Rope-ladder with ball and string attached,
Large canvas sheet with handles,
Axe, crow-bar,
25 large rubber covers to protect furniture from water.
Basement window, marked "Fire Apparatus," in the west side of University Hall. Door locked.
Keys to all the above-mentioned doors and windows, which are locked, are kept at No. 5 University Hall, the bursar's office, the office of the superintendent of buildings, and the janitors' offices. At night, keys can be obtained at the president's house, janitors' rooms in Stoughton, Wadsworth House, Holyoke House, 10 Church street, at 6 North avenue (Mr. Eveleth's), and in the possession of the watchman and fireman.
