There has always been considerable doubt as to whether a success could be made of the Dining Association at Memorial, and for a time these doubts seemed to be almost justified. But at length it seems to have overcome its difficulties to a great degree and to have become firmly established. This of course is most gratifying, for, in the event of its failure, the need of such an association at Harvard would have been greatly felt. The announcement of the small sum to be charged for board at Memorial per week is an evidence of this gratifying change which has come about. The new steward has proven that the Hall can be made a success, and has given it a good standing for the future if the indications point true. To be sure there are still several things which are unsatisfactory,-as for instance, the quality of the food furnished at lunch; but the fare generally has been so much improved that we are unwilling to believe that the improvement will not soon be extended to this meal also. At any rate, we believe that the college generally has been well pleased with the Hall during the term, on the whole. We wish however to give a word of warning, the steward and directors must see to it that there be no falling off from the present standard, if they wish the Hall to remain as successful as it is at present.
