The University of Pennsylvania has challenged Harvard University to row an eight oared shell race, with coxswains, at any time, over any distance of water, and at such place as may be selected by Harvard. The challenge is subject, however, to the condition that Harvard University shall within thirty days inform the University of Pennsylvania of her acceptance or refusal. This proviso is made in order that the other rowing fixtures of the University of Pennsylvania may be so arranged as not to conflict with the time and place chosen by Harvard in case of her acceptance.
