A speaker at the meeting of the National Academy of Sciences declared that it was his belief that a new species of the human race, by the propagation of deaf mutes of their own kind, is being developed.
B. T. Harrington of Salem rode last Monday on his bicycle 100 miles in 9 hours 58 minutes. He only stopped 25 minutes in all and but for the gale would have broken the 100 mile record.
