FRESHMAN ATHLETIC MEETING.

The executive committee of the Athletic Association have voted to hold a freshman athletic meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 24. The events to be contested will be 100 yards dash, 220 yards dash, 1-4 mile run, 1-2 mile run, 1 mile run, 120 yards hurdle race, 1 mile walk, putting the shot, throwing the hammer, pole vaulting, running high jump, running broad jump. It is hoped that the new track will be in condition before the 24th, but if such should not be the case the meeting will still be held, probably on the old track on Jarvis field. Freshmen are advised to practice on the earth track on Jarvis or on the sod any or every day before four o'clock, when the foot-ball team begins its practice. Every freshman should do his best to make a good reputation for '87 in athletics, and should either enter one or more of the above events, or persuade some of his friends to do so. Let no one "feel bashful" about contesting, but rather let '87 show its interest in athletics by a large number of entries when the time come for the meeting. Early next week the executive committee hope to make arrangements for a university athletic meeting to be held Saturday, October 27. The hammers and shot and pole for pole-vaulting can be found on inquiry at the gymnasium, and it is to be hoped that freshmen will begin work at once for all the events.

T. J. COOLIDGE, JR., President.
