Today the lacrosse team plays its first game of the year with the Unions on Jarvis field. To induce the Unions to bring out their strongest twelve and to make the game as close and exciting as possible, the association has offered individual prizes to each member of the winning team. This, it is hoped, will afford the college an excellent opportunity of witnessing a skillful game of lacrosse, as the Unions are one of the strongest teams in the country. Our team has labored under many disadvantages on account of the distance of the grounds from the college, and the captain deserves great credit for getting out so many men for daily practice. A noticeable improvement has been made in the playing within the last week, and the team will undoubtedly make a good fight for the game. The entries for the long and accurate throwing contests are numerous, and we should not be surprised if some excellent records were made in these events. The college should show its appreciation of the efforts of the association and the members of the team by attending the game in as large numbers as possible. In just a week the team expects to meet Yale and the other colleges in the tournament for the Oelrich cup at New York, and certainly deserves all the encouragement the college can give, both now and in the future.
