The opening of the graduate courses to under-graduates is but another step toward the perfection of the elective system. On a par in importance with this are the new requirements in regard to the anticipation of a part or the whole of the freshman required course. Both of these changes tend toward the same result - the encouragement of specialties. According to these regulations, a man may anticipate his freshman required work and pursue one subject throughout his college course. The offer of "honors" to special students is also a new feature in the same general line as those just mentioned. Any person can now come to college and avail himself of all the privileges of a regular student without being obliged to take the required course. The only thing such a man must forego is the degree and the mention of his name in the Quinquennial Catalogue - the last surely no great hardship.
